“There must be something terribly wrong with you. You rarely smile.”

I slightly choked after piecing together the stilted accusation and willingly thoughts slipped through my mouth.

“At any given moment, there’s several of me sitting here. One is almost always listening. Another studying the diction of that couple over there. The trees, for example, I feel their movement and it lulls me and the wind speaks to me. The sound of cars or rain or clouds, scratches and pulls at my awareness. However, if you notice, I often close my eyes. It’s my form of smiling with my soul.”

He smirked. Shaking his head and creating a thunderous eye roll.

And I…

closed my eyes.
