Naked thoughts of we.

I asked you,
the other day
what it meant to be
intimately a “we”

You didn’t stop or look up
but I saw a brown iris roll
and a page turned mind
shake, a loud no
while you aired, a stale joke

Naked in my thoughts
I still laughed and
asked again
this time you
pushed back a stack
of heavy
hitting my inner floors

coincidently collided
I contemplated
for a decade
the “you” in the “we”
wasn’t capable to confide

I and you were
souls separated
long before
the ink was signed
a turnkey of beginning and end

“We” entails
companionship, coupled
with compassionate
consideration of what
I and you,
want and need
the you,
could simply
not afford.
